Read More	OBITUARY THE OSCEOLA WEEKLY SENTINEL Osceola, Iowa Thursday, March 22, 1888 IDA MERCER Miss Ida Mercer died on Sunday evening, March 18th, at the home of Mr. Macomber, two miles east of Osceola, where she has been ill and confined to her room and bed almost the entire time since the 18th of October. Death was five months coming to her, despite her seeking it swiftly, and in those months her sufferings have been indescribable. The wound refused to heal and suppurated constantly. Consumption seized upon the injured lungs and she has wasted away, conscious most of the time that recovery was impossible, and manifesting a very sweet patience, resignation and penitence, along with a strong desire to get well if it could be. Her life has always been a pure and good one, and she has made her mark as a teacher of more than ordinary worth in the public schools. The close of her life thus, at an early age of twenty two, appears utterly sad, but she has in these lingering months made her peace with God, and gone, her friends know, to a world where no more of the ills that made this life a burden to her, can follow. Friends kindly cared for the lonely girl to the last, and their labor of love has given them a large credit, no doubt, in the accounts above, that will be known "when the books are opened." Her funeral occurred on Tuesday, Rev. Van Vleet conducting the religious exercises.
