The Funeral services for the friends and neighbors of Mrs. Slaten was held Friday afternoon at High Hill with Rev. Douglas preaching the funeral sermon and on Saturday morning another service was held in Wilbur where Mrs. Slaten was laid to rest with a number of her loved ones who had gone before. Rev. Mitchelmore of the Wilbur Community church preached the sermon and T. E. Jenkins was in charge of the arrangements which were handled in a perfect manner. A large attendance of old friends were present. A short sketch of Mrs. Slaten 's busy life follows. Ida Slaten was born in Sparta, Wisconsin, October 19, 1859. When she was 11 years of age the family moved to the vicinity of Pelican Rapids, MI. .She lived there until she came to Portland OR in 1883. Her next home was at Olympia WA were she resided for five years. From Olympia WA, she moved to Wilbur, WA and in 1904 she moved to High Hill, near Soap Lake where she died Jan. 19,1922. She was married to L. O. Slaten in Pelican Rapids, Minn. Dec 24th 1879. To them were born four children, three of whom are still alive .They are Eva, Ira and Chas. She also leaves to mourn her loss a sister, Mrs. Ella Johnson of Bogart, Susan., Canada, a brother, C. E. Davis of Newport, WA and nine grandchildren. She was a charter member of the Presbyterian church of Wilbur, WA. Suds her request that she be buried in Wilbur. She was a kind and devoted mother, an earnest Christian woman who spent her life in doing good and in giving comfort to all in trouble and distress. She was dearly loved by all her many friends and will be greatly missed.
