Wells Laid to Rest Ida Eleonora Ames Wells was born in the state of Ohio, March 8, 1851, and moved to Peoria, Illinois, with her parents while yet in infancy and a little later lost her father. Wells Laid to Rest Ida Eleonora Ames Wells was born in the state of Ohio, March 8, 1851, and moved to Peoria, Illinois, with her parents while yet in infancy and a little later lost her father. At the age of six years she went to live with her uncle, Abram Steadwell, and grew to womanhood in Henry county, Iowa. When nineteen years of age she was married to H. A. Wells at Trenton, Iowa, and moved to Buffalo county, Nebraska seven years later in the year 1877 following her uncle, Abram Steadwell to this county. To this union were born seven children, three in Iowa and four in Nebraska, Mrs. Sadie Anderson of Elmcreek, Mrs. Maude Barnes of Rodman, Iowa, Miss Mabel Wells of Elmcreek, Mr. John A. Wells of Elmore, Minnesota, Mr. Roy Wells of Rolf, Iowa, Mrs. Elma Armstrong of Brady Island, Nebraska, and on child who died in infancy. In the year 1880 she united with the Christian church, being baptized in the Wood river near Glenwood Park, and has been a devoted member until her death, with the result that she was influential in leading all of her children together with their father to the acceptance of that faith. Since the year 1900 Elmcreek has been her home and she will always be remembered by her activities in the churches of our town, her broad views, and her devotion to her home and family. Eight years ago she suffered a stroke of paralysis and gradually failed in health until Thursday, February 10, 1921, she passed to her reward, having lived sixty-nine years, eleven months and two days. She is survived by her husband, six children, twenty-three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of friends. The children were all present with the exception of Elma and Roy who have illness in their homes. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the Christian church, conducted by O. L. Adams of Kearney. Members of the family present from elsewhere were Mr. and Mrs. George Wells of Pleasanton; Mr. and Mrs. N. H. Anderson of Kearney; Mr. and Mrs. Devinne and Mrs. David Crawford of Kearney; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Dillon of Grand Island; Mrs. Nannie Jones and Mrs. Clarence Fisher and children of Grand Island; Allen Wells of Elmore, Minnesota, and Mrs. Dave Barnes and son Bernard of Rodman, Iowa. The remains were laid to rest in the Elmcreek cemetery.
