MCKENNA Resident of Lindy Community For More Than 40 Years Funeral services for Mrs. Gus McKenna of Lindy were held at the Center Congregational church on Tuesday, July 5, with the Rev. John Becker officiating. Mrs. McKenna passed away in the Osmond hospital on Friday, July 1. Pallbearers were Paul McGee, Leonard Barnes, Wilfred Hill, Claybourne Youell, Ross Crosley and Chris Harrom. Interment was made in Laurel Hill cemetery at Neligh. Ida Gertrude McKenna was born March 6, 1890, at Neligh, Nebr., the only daughter of a family of six children of James and Laura Haynes. Her happy childhood was spent in Antelope county where she received her education in the grade school, then entered Gates Academy. After three years she was forced to quit school due to complications due to typhoid fever. On September 20, 1908 she was united in marriage to Gus McKenna at the home of her parents and began her duties as a homemaker and helpmate which she carried on faithfully for over 41 years. Three children were born to this union. In 1918 the family moved to Knox county, finally building a farm home near Lindy where the last two years she was confined to her bed, but never losing interest in her home and loved ones. On October 7, 1945, she was baptized and united with the Victory Union church where she remained a faithful member, although her illness prevented frequent attendance. Countless tokens of love, messages of cheer and many beautiful flowers were sent by the L.H.M.C. of which she was a former member. On June 25 she was moved by ambulance to St. Joseph hospital at Osmond, but medical science and loving care were to no avail and she passed away July 1, 1949, at 6:25 a.m. at the age of 59 years, 3 months and 14 days. She leaves to mourn her loss her loving husband, one daughter, Mrs. Walter Hill of Lindy; two sons, James of Pickstown, S.D. and LaVern of Rushville, Nebr.; 12 grandchildren; one great grandson; three brother, Bert Haynes of Sacramento, Calif., A.C. Haynes of National City, Calif., and Walter Haynes of Warren, Ariz.; her cousin, G.W. Shuts of South Sioux City, Nebr., who made his home with her family in his youth; also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many loving friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Scott who died in 1939, and Lassie, who passed away in 1946. Those from a distance attending the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. James McKenna of Pickstown, S.D., Mr. and Mrs. LaVern McKenna of Rushville, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hunter of Fairfax, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Dufphey of Battle Creek, and Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Sheets of South Sioux City. We join the many friends of the family in extending sincere sympathy in their sad hour. BLOOMFIELD MONITOR 14 JULY 1949
