Grace, daughter of Stephen and Sophia Burgoon, and one of a family of six daughters and four sons, was born near Paton on Oct. 6, 1884. She entered into rest at a hospital in Minneapolis, Minn. Friday morning, April 28, after such a short illness that the members of her immediate family were shocked and stunned at the sad news. With the exception of seven years spent in Calhoun and Webster Counties when a child, Paton was her home, and after her school days, she followed the trade as a dressmaker for some time, then took up nurses training at Fort Dodge. After her mother's death about 20 years ago, she went to Minneapolis, where she has resided ever since, nursing as long as health permitted, and then took up less strenuous work. She became a member of the M. E. Church at Paton when a young girl, and was an earnest, loyal, and consistent member of the Sunday School and church, always helping in its various activities. Later she transferred her membership to the Simpson M. E. Church at Minneapolis, where she was a regular attendant. Her parents and two brothers, Will and Bert, preceded her in death. Those who are sorrowing today are Alonzo Burgoon of Diamondville, WY; Miss Nellie Burgoon of Marshalltown; Mrs. Carrie Erickson of Paton; Harry Burgoon, Mrs. Mable Fowler of Minneapolis; Mrs. Myrtle Fowler of Des Moines; Mrs. Ruth Anderson of Hutchinson, Minn.; two sisters-in-law: Mrs. Blanche Burgoon of Paton and Mrs. Grace Burgoon of Ames, and a number of nieces and nephews, who will cherish her memory. Funeral services were held from the M. E. Church Sunday afternoon with the pastor, Rev. C. A. Carlson, in charge. Interment was made in the family lot in Paton Cemetery. Four young nephews and two cousins acted as pall bearers. Music was furnished by Mrs. Eva Sells and Mrs. Harriet Stribling with Mrs. Graham as accompanist. Out-of-town friends attending the rites were Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Gordinier, Mrs. Ethel Stroud, and Miss Mabel Rider of Des Moines, Dan Wessling of Grand Junction, and Mrs. and Mrs. John Finger of Boone.
