Visitation will be on Friday, April 26th from 5-7 p.m. at the Iowa Falls Elks Lodge. A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, April 27th at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational U.C.C in Iowa Falls. Ida Grace (Nissly) Fitz was a wonderful woman that was loved, is missed and will always be cherished… Ida's story begins on March 28th, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa. Her little life was the answer to George L & Hildagard Nissly prayers. It was on July 3rd at 9 o’clock in the evening when sweet little Ida Grace was adopted by the loving couple, now a family of three that resided in Des Moines. This is where Ida’s love for music and friendships began. She flourished through her grade school years and many of her friendships began during this time. Ida was a junior at Roosevelt High School when she transferred midterm to Iowa Falls. She was well received by her new classmates and even nominated for homecoming queen her senior year. She graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1949, 4th in her class and then attended Cottey College for Women in Nevada Missouri, graduating with her AA degree in 1951. Ida married her high school sweetheart, Earl Alan Fitz on June 24th, 1951. Alan’s position with the U.S air force transferred the newlyweds to Wichita Falls Texas. They called an 18ft trailer home for three years, Suzy and George were born during this time. After Alan’s discharge, Iowa called them home to the Fitz Family Farm. This is where Sally Jo would complete the family. During their 20 wonderful years on the farm lots of memories were made, these stories are still being shared today. Alan and Ida shared their love for music with their children. Playing piano, drums, bongos and ukuleles while singing and dancing. It was through Ida’s faith and love for her family that she selflessly gave a kidney to her 16-year-old son George, this being one of the first kidney transplant operations done in the United States. Opportunity Knocked in 1972 when sights were set on a little adventure called, Riverside. With Ida’s brains and Alan's “know how’ Riverside became a worldwide book and bible powerhouse. They traveled the globe via train, plane, boat, motorcycle and automobiles. Making friends and memories all along the way. Ida Grace was initiated into chapter DV P.E.O in 1949. Her mother, grandmother and aunt were members of the sisterhood. She also belonged to ISABELLA (Literary Society), Iowa Young Republicans (1964 Secretary & Treasurer), Potluck Group and Bridge Club. Ida Grace was a member of 1st Congregational Church UCC. Ida was a true survivor; she battled breast cancer twice and faced multiple health concerns all with dignity and GRACE. Her everlasting love for Alan continued through sickness and health during their 66 years of marriage. Ida believed, “We should all take pride in the part we play in our own existence,” a quote that will be passed on through existing family members. Daughters Susan Fitz and Sally Fitz of Iowa Falls, Iowa; grandchildren, Katie Manning of Birmingham, AL. Georgia (Andrew) Howard of Los Gatos, CA. Jesse (Jazlyn) Fitz of Des Moines, IA. Amy (Justin) Ites of Alden IA. Melissa Schutt of Des Moines, IA and Laura Fitz of Xieman, China; great grandchildren: Alex and Caden Manning, Hunter, Jack and Abigail Ites, Evelyn, Olive, Grant and Jack Howard, Jacob Sly, Sam, Iris and Eliza Fitz. The last chapter of Ida’s story came to an end surrounded by her loving family on April 17th, 2019. She joins her parents, son George Nov 10th, 2014 and husband Alan Nov 30th, 2017. It is her buoyant spirit and zest for life that will be carried on through her Family and friends.
