Description	:	March 24, 1909 - The Democrat - Mrs. Ida L. Sands died at her home at Carrington, North Dakota, Saturday, March 13. She was a sister of Mrs. W.J. McCarty of this city. She lived near Curlew until a few years ago when the family moved to Carrington, chiefly on account of her declining health. However, the change did not benefit her much. She was a sister of Mrs. W.J. McCarty of this city. She lived near Curlew until a few years ago when the family moved to Carrington, chiefly on account of her declining health. However, the change did not benefit her much. Throughout her illness she was hopeful and patient, never complaining about her affliction. Early the morning of her death she appeared to be in her usual condition. Suddenly she called to one of her children and asked to have the bedcoving turned back and the door opened. But death had claimed her and she had passed away at 7:00 o'clock without a struggle. Ida Lillian Sands was born at Geneseo, Illinois Dec 1, 1857. She was married at that place to Obed Sands in March 1877. Eight children were born to them, six survive, the oldest Clare having died almost 4 years ago, and Vera less than a year ago. Mrs. A.J. Bateman lives at Long Beach, CA. The others (Roy, Golda, Mabel, Della, and Delbert Sands) reside at Carrington, S.D. The writer did not know the deceased but he had often heard her spoke of as a woman of most commendable zeal and persevering solicitude for the things that go to make life better and nobler. The failure of her health when she had a number of children depending on her for instruction, the comfort and encouragement which only a mother can bestow, must have been a keen disapointment to her. However such is life. Sadness frequently comes to the homes of those who are in no sense prepared for it. And those who are most helpful and most needed are often stricken down. The husband and the family and the sister of the deceased, who resides in Emmetsburg, have profound sympathy of our people in their sorrow.
