Description	:	Pioneer American Settler, Mrs. Ida Hamren Passes Ida May Marquart was born at Tipton, Cedar County, Iowa, on November 7th, 1869. In her early childhood, she moved with her family to Moville, Woodbury County, Iowa, and on New Year's Day, 1889, she was united in marriage to Joseph Ludwig Hamren. At the turn of the century, Mr. and Mrs. Hamren joined the movement of American settlers to the Northwest Territories. Read More	Pioneer American Settler, Mrs. Ida Hamren Passes Ida May Marquart was born at Tipton, Cedar County, Iowa, on November 7th, 1869. In her early childhood, she moved with her family to Moville, Woodbury County, Iowa, and on New Year's Day, 1889, she was united in marriage to Joseph Ludwig Hamren. At the turn of the century, Mr. and Mrs. Hamren joined the movement of American settlers to the Northwest Territories. They travelled by immigrant train, disembarking on March 21, 1901, at Wetaskiwin, in which district they resided for three years. In the spring of 1904, they moved to a homestead in the Camrose district, residing there until Mr. Hamren's death on Christmas Day, 1946. Early in 1947, Mrs. Hamren moved to Camrose, where she resided until her passing on Dec. 13, 1955. Mrs. Hamren gave generously of her nursing services, assisting the early settlers wherever needed. She took charge of the Camrose Isolation Hospital during the Scarlet Fever epidemic of the winter of 1926. Mrs. Hamren was predeceased by four children: Ellen, Nettie, Chester and Luella. Mrs. Hamren is survived by two daughters; Mrs. Etta Stapleton of Penticton, B.C., and Mrs. I. Grace Cox of Regina; and six sons, Wayland of New Norway, Frank of Kelowna, Bryan of Camrose, Clarence of Chico, California, George of Auburn, Wash., and Merle of Santa Monica, California. Mrs. Hamren is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hamren has been a resident of the Camrose district for the past 51 years. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 16th, at 2:30 p.m. from the Camrose United Church, with Rev. M. Swartz and Rev. A. Willis Cann officiating. Camrose Canadian, December 14th, 1955 ----- The Hamren's built a progressive farm from the raw prairie. Mr. Hamren was one of the freighters who hauled goods from Westaskiwin to the town of Heather Brae before the railroad and Mrs. Hamren gave freely of her services in the nursing capacity.
