Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars, Iowa. Mrs. Nicholson was born May 18, 1909, in Union County, S.D., the daughter of David and Clara (Erford) Mentzer. The family moved to Pennsylvania, where she was raised and attended school. She earned her teacher's certificate from Shippensburg Teachers College in Shippensburg, Penn. She returned to this area to teach in South Dakota and Akron, Iowa. She married William F. Nicholson on Dec. 18, 1936, in Nebraska. The couple made their home on a farm in rural Le Mars. She stopped teaching to raise her family until 1956, when she resume teaching in the Craig area. She also attended Westmar College to finish her four-year degree. William retired from farming in 1970, and the couple moved to Craig. She retired from teaching in 1974. William died Oct. 7, 1984. For the past few years, she had lived in Omaha with her daughter, Dorothy. She had been a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Le Mars. She became a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig in 1984. Survivors include a son and his wife, Edgar; a daughter, Dorothy; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Amy Becker of Le Mars, and Clara Jumper of Newville, Penn.; and a brother, Robert Mentzer of Colorado Springs, Colo. She also was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; and a sister.
