Tootie was born Feb. 19, 1920, in Sioux City, where she was one of the original members of the South Bottoms. She was the daughter of Noah and Florence (Godfrey) Hauser. She attended school in Sioux City and graduated from high school from the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She married William Porter Sr. in March of 1942 at Dakota City, Neb. She later married Wayne Harshfield in 1952 at Dakota City. He died in 1968 at Philadelphia, Pa. Tootie lived most of her life in Sioux City, except for two years in Pender, Neb. and the past 12 years in South Sioux City. She was a member of Sioux City Eagles Auxiliary Aerie No. 77. Tootie was a crafter for many years. She especially enjoyed crocheting and ceramics. She belonged to the Lady Crafters at the Salvation Army and the Busy Bee Fingers at the Sioux City Auditorium. She also enjoyed camping although her main enjoyment in life was her family. Survivors include six children, Karen Tanner of Sioux City, William Porter Jr. and his wife, Veronica, of Harrisburg, Neb., Noah Porter and his wife, Sue, of Sioux City, Tiffery Bonifas and her husband, Ted, of St. Charles, Ill., Jennifer Wennekamp and her husband, Don, of Pender and Merle Porter and his wife, Robin, of Winter Park, Fla.; a sister, Lila Gude and her fiance, Harold Mueller, of McCook Lake, S.D.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a daughter, Justine Bartel; two brothers, Arnold and Elroy Hauser; a grandson, Elijah; a son-in-law, Bob Tanner; and a very special friend, Harry Turner.
