She suffered from Primary Progressive Aphasia for several years. Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Hill on Friday, Jan. 20 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Ronald Kuehner officiating. Merten-Butler Mortuary, Blue Hill, is in charge of arrangements. Mae was born on July 31, 1934, seven miles north of Guide Rock, to Henry P. and Mary (Kuhn) Alber. She was a 1952 graduate of Blue Hill High School and married her high school sweetheart, Richard Earl McConkey, on Aug. 21, 1955. To this union three children were born, Susan, Judith and Mickey. Richard (Dick) preceded her in death on Sept. 8, 2011. Mae worked outside the home most of her life. First at the Commercial Bank in Blue Hill, next as a travel agent at First National Bank in Hastings, and lastly as the office manager of the Blue Hill Medical Clinic. She retired in July 2003. She enjoyed golfing, gardening, and Husker football. Her greatest joy was being with her children and grandchildren. They have fond memories of spending time with her in Blue Hill, her life-long hometown and the community she loved. Preceding her in death in addition to her husband, were her parents; her sister, LaVona (Alber) Kort; and her brother-in-law, Melvin Heath. She is survived by her children, Susan McConkey (Greg Summers) of Overland Park, KS, Judy McConkey of Murfreesboro, TN, and Mick (Cookie) McConkey of Gretna; grandchildren, Ben Newberg, Zac Newberg, Caleb Newberg, Markie (McConkey) Westerman, Mickey McConkey, Jr., Madison McConkey; great-grandson, Thomas Vath of Foster City, CA; step-grandchildren, Miles Summers and Jennifer (Summers) Hartshorn of Kansas City; sisters, Ione Heath of Lincoln, Mary Ann (Bob) Fish of Hastings, and Elaine (Don) Bartels of Blue Hill; brother Bob (Dot) Alber of Pagosa Springs, CO; brother-in-law, Gene (Betty) Kort of Hastings; and uncle, Roy (Dorothy) Alber, Hastings. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Henry and Mary Alber Scholarship at Blue Hill High School, Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Hill or the Blue Hill Golf Association.
