She worked as a hired girl for various people in the area. On March 5, 1946 she was united in marriage to Andrew Jongsma. This union was blessed with four daughters. Ilena May Vanden Bos was born September 29, 1925 to Dick W. and Bertha (Meyerink) Vanden Bos. She received her education in Darlington #3 Pleasant Ridge School and attended Platte High. She worked as a hired girl for various people in the area. On March 5, 1946 she was united in marriage to Andrew Jongsma. This union was blessed with four daughters. They farmed south of Platte until Andrew's death in 1981. She then worked as a housekeeper at the Platte Hospital and as a CNA at the Care Center. On June 15, 1989 she married Oscar Tjeerdsma. She was a faithful member of the Christian Reformed Church since her youth. She was a dedicated member of the Magdalenes, Dakota Christian Auxiliary, having served as President of both organizations, and attended Coffee Break as long as her health allowed her to. She enjoyed baking, gardening and handiwork. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Andrew and Oscar, parents, step mother, Jessie Vanden Bos, and many brothers in law and sisters in law.
