Read More	Longtime Sharon Springs, Kansas resident Ima Lee (Parks) Popp, 87, died Saturday, September 7, 2013, at Wallace County Community Care Center in Sharon Springs. She was born December 27, 1925, in rural Oklahoma, near Anadarko, the daughter of Esma Ree (Sharp) and Otto Parks. Ima Lee was baptized as a young teen in the Church of Christ. Her parents were cotton farmers and she and her siblings helped pick cotton, along with other farm chores of milking cows and tending the garden. She attended Prairie View School in Caddo County, Oklahoma during her elementary years, and then Cement High School in Cement, Oklahoma. Since it was during World War II, instead of finishing high school, she went to work at Douglas C-47 Aircraft and also at a restaurant, both in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Later in her adult years, she earned her GED. In 1951, she came to Hoisington, Kansas to help her sister with her newborn child. It was there that she met and married Vernon L. Popp. To this union two children were born: Vernon L. Popp, Jr. and Ronald Lee Popp. In 1953, they moved to Sharon Springs to make their home and farm. Ima Lee was known for her warm and friendly personality and for being a good cook and homemaker. Within her family, her delicious fudge was known as "Ima Lee's Million Dollar Fudge". She loved playing the board game "Wahoo", dominoes, and bingo. Preceding her in death were her parents; son Vernon Popp, Jr.; sister Morna Ree Parks; and an infant brother Roy Lee Parks. Surviving family includes her son Ronnie Popp and his wife Virgie of Sharon Springs; three grandchildren Clayton Popp and his wife Kristy of WaKeeney; Joshua Popp of Ellis; and Nicole Popp of Sharon Springs; two great-grandchildren James Kriegh and Graycee Popp; sisters Minnie Bell "Penny" Settle of McPherson; Willie Mae DuBois of Lubbock, Texas; brothers E.J. Parks and his wife Sandy of Minneola, Texas; Clyde Parks of Amarillo, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. The funeral will be Thursday, September 12, at 10:00 AM MT, at the Sharon Lutheran Church in Sharon Springs, with Phil Knox, PMA, officiating. Burial will follow at 4:00 PM CT in the Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may share their respects on Wednesday, September 11, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM MT, at Koons Funeral Home in Sharon Springs. Memorials may be designated to the Sharon Lutheran Church or Wallace County Community Care Center, and may be left at the services, or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS 67735-1555.
