Description	:	Mr. Scheihing was one of the earliest settlers of Buffalo County. He was one of a family of ten children born to John G. and Christena Munck Scheihing who came to America in 1869 and located near Burlington, Iowa. Gottlieb, age 21, decided to seek his fortune in the far West, arriving in Buffalo County on April 4, 1876 and pre-empted Lots 3, 4, 13, and 14 of Section 6, T10, R16 and later changed the entry to a homestead. He was one of a family of ten children born to John G. and Christena Munck Scheihing who came to America in 1869 and located near Burlington, Iowa. Gottlieb, age 21, decided to seek his fortune in the far West, arriving in Buffalo County on April 4, 1876 and pre-empted Lots 3, 4, 13, and 14 of Section 6, T10, R16 and later changed the entry to a homestead. He remained through the three years of destroyed crops due to grasshoppers living on corn bread, a few potatoes and an occasional jackrabbit. He also cut wood on the South Loup River and hauled it to Kearney for 2 dollars a load. He later filed for a timber claim on Section 32, T10, R16. By 1890 he owned 320 acres of land, had a spacious frame house and had just completed a frame barn. Mr. Sckeihing was married, April 5, 1880, to Mary Stearley, who was born April 15, 1857, and is the only daughter in a family of eight children born to George and Barbara (Kroft) Stearley, both of whom are natives of Germany, the former having been born in 1825, and the latter in 1822. Her father is a resident of Buffalo county, having located here in 1869. The union of Mr. and Mrs. Sckeihing has resulted in the birth of six children, as follows--George, born May 1, 1881; Christena (deceased), born October 13, 1882; Barbara, born March 23, 1884; Emma, born July 13, 1885; Samuel (deceased), born January 7, 1885, Julia, born August 28, 1888, Sophia D., born July 21, 1890.   Mr. and Mrs. Sckeihing are both active members of the Lutheran church. They were the parents of: Lydia born 25 November 1896(baptism record at Peake Lutheran Church) and Frieda born April 1898.
