Description	:	Imogene Lucille Roepke, age 96, of Hoquiam, Washington, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at Pacific Care Center in Hoquiam. She was born on March 12, 1923, in Irving, Kansas to John Isadore and Amelia Eva. (Forst) Tommer. They moved to Waterville soon after, and that became the family home. They lived on a farm at “Star”, near Waterville. She attended grade school at the one room “Star” school near Waterville. She was born on March 12, 1923, in Irving, Kansas to John Isadore and Amelia Eva. (Forst) Tommer. They moved to Waterville soon after, and that became the family home. They lived on a farm at “Star”, near Waterville. She attended grade school at the one room “Star” school near Waterville. A 1932 photograph shows 23 students, including nine year old Imogene; her eleven year old brother, Lawrence and her sister, Catherine, age 7. Imogene attended Waterville High School, graduating with the class of 1941. She was in the chorus, played clarinet in the high school band, played guitar, piano and sang for personal enjoyment. She was very talented musically and had a beautiful voice. She fondly remembered having many friends. On July 30, 1949, Imogene married Raymond G. Roepke (1914 – 1986) of Barnes, Kansas. They were blessed to share 37 years together. They made their home in Barnes, living in the same house until Raymond’s death. They installed kitchen and bath plumbing in 1962 and Imogene was thrilled! Imogene worked at various jobs over the years. An early job was in 1938, as a clerk at Midland Parts and Bearings in Irving, Kansas. Her wages went to help the family expenses. She then was a clerk in Honstead’s Mercantile in Waterville; a telephone switchboard operator in Barnes and helped with income tax preparation for several years. She planted and tended a large garden and canned jar after jar of fruits and vegetables. All this while being a helpmate to Raymond in his cabinet making and custom home building business. In the late 1986, Imogene moved to Hoquiam, Washington to be near her brother and sister and their families. She loved all the shades of green in the trees, marveled at the abundance of colorful trees, shrubs and flowers. She especially enjoyed the rain. Imogene and Raymond had no children, but, found much joy in all their nieces and nephews. She as able to name them all and name all of their children, too. Her memory was a treasure trove of information. She got her first computer when she was in her 80’s and became proficient at e-mail ! She was very curious about how things worked or how they were made. How do they make toothpicks? She enjoyed having family and friends visit her. Among her other favorite pastimes were; reading her prayers, talking to family and friends on the telephone, playing her piano, wordsearch books, jigsaw puzzles, joining friends at BINGO, and especially, endless hours playing the Marble Game! From the 1940’s to the 1970’s she did beautiful hand embroidery work. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greenleaf, Kansas and attended the Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church in Hoquiam. Imogene was preceded in death by her loving husband, Raymond (1986); her father, John Isadore Tommer (1985), her mother, Amelia Eva (Forst) Tommer (1982); her nephew, Bobby Dale Rowland (1998); her sister, Catherine Rowland (2005); her brother, Lawrence Tommer, Sr. (2015); also many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, classmates and friends. Imogene is survived by her cousins, Margaret (Tommer) Rosebaugh of Topeka, Kansas, Richard Hawley of Waterville, Kansas and Joan Hawley Sharpe of Henderson, Nevada; her sister Catherine’s children; nieces, Jacqueline Lawson (Ron) of Olympia, Washington and Sandra Wills (Danny) of Aliso Viejo, California; nephew, David Rowland (Jacquelynn) of Hoquiam and Dan Rowland of Olympia, Washington; her brother Lawrence’s children: nephew, Lawrence Tommer, Jr. of Montana and Nicholas (Donna) Tommer of Ephrata, Washington. There are 18 great nieces and nephews and 20 great great nieces and nephews, all of whom she dearly loved. Her large family was her joy. Her family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Pacific Care Center for the competent, compassionate and loving care given to Imogene during her last weeks. Per Imogene’s wishes there will be no funeral services in Washington State. Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 – 5th Street in Hoquiam, Washington. She will be inurned, at her request, by a simple graveside service, with her loving husband, Raymond, in Cottage Hill Cemetery at Waterville, Kansas. The day and the time has not yet been determined. Arrangements there will be by the Terry-Christie Funeral Home. After she has gone, the family will remember and celebrate the life she lived, the love she shared and the difference she made in our lives. Her smile and the sound of her laughter will not be forgotten. She was a gift to all of her family. Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 – 5th Street in Hoquiam, Washington.
