Cooper, who was killed at Scotia last week, was laid to rest in the St. Libory cemetery last Tuesday. ============== Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Independent Monday, 21 February 1916, page 2 CHILD KILLED North Loup, Feb. 21 - The thirteen months old infant of Mr. and Mrs. W. Cooper, of Scotia, was instantly killed while the parents, with large crowd of others, was standing on the railroad bridge and watching the men blow up the ice in the Loup river to prevent gorges and damages. A chunk of ice as large as a man's head soared, among other particles of ice, two hundred feet in the air. This particular piece was wafted about 175 feet to the bridge side. The infant was in a baby buggy. The ice fell squarely on its head, crushed the skull and killed the child instantly. No other persons were injured but more care was taken after that by the crowd to remain at a safer distance.
