Onie was born October 9, 1934, in Westphalia, Iowa, to the late Francis Joseph and Marie (Mueller) Henscheid. She graduated from St. Boniface High School, Westphalia in 1952. Onie married William T. Smith on June 9, 1956 in Westphalia. They were blessed with seven children. The Smith family made their home in Carroll, IA before moving to Council Bluffs in 1977. "Onie" Smith, age 81, of Council Bluffs, passed away July 5, 2016, at CHI Mercy Hospital. Onie was born October 9, 1934, in Westphalia, Iowa, to the late Francis Joseph and Marie (Mueller) Henscheid. She graduated from St. Boniface High School, Westphalia in 1952. Onie married William T. Smith on June 9, 1956 in Westphalia. They were blessed with seven children. The Smith family made their home in Carroll, IA before moving to Council Bluffs in 1977. Onie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church; it's Altar and Rosary Society and for many years was a volunteer, serving the parish funeral lunches. In addition to her parents, Onie was preceded in death by her husband, William T. Smith in 2002; infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth Smith; son, Timothy J. Smith in 2005; grandson, Caleb Hedrick; 3 sisters and 1 brother. Onie is survived by her daughters, Lil Taylor, Laurie (Chris Bissell) Zeilinger, Norene (Mike) Hedrick and Nancy (Wes) Kabance; sons, Ron (Denise) Smith and Pat (Lynette) Smith; 19 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; sister, Jane (Leo) Rau; brother, Urbie Henscheid; nieces and nephews. Wake service, Sunday, 4 p.m., followed by visitation with the family until 6 p.m., at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial, Monday, 10 a.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Reverend Glen Wilwerding will be the celebrant. A lunch will immediately follow the mass in the parish hall. Interment St. Boniface Cemetery, Westphalia. Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick Catholic Church or a charity of the donor's choice. Contributor: Iowa Girl (49254126)
