Heun, age 86, of Lake View, IA, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2012 at Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View. Ione Dorothy Peters was born in rural Sac County on January 2, 1926 to parents Otto and Lena (Buse) Peters. She grew up in Wall Lake Township and attended country school at Wall Lake Township #5. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith on February 14, 1926 and later confirmed on June 30, 1940. She graduated from Lake View High School with the class of 1943. Ione went on to further her education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, IA, where she roomed with her sister Velma. She majored in teaching and started her teaching career in a country school in Clinton Township #6. She met the love of her life in Leonard Francis Heun and they were married on May 4,1947 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View, IA. They were the proud parents of two sons: Eugene and Thomas. Ione spent most of her married life as a farm wife and homemaker, providing a loving home for her family. She was born on the family farm and resided in the same half-section her entire life. In addition to taking care of her family, she enjoyed varied interests including quilting, gardening, card club, and Merry Meeters. She was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Ladies Aide and she was involved in the church quilting group the "Emmanuel Quilters". She will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her sons: Eugene (Joni) Heun of Lake View, IA, and Thomas (Jane) Heun of Jefferson, IA; grandchildren: Mitchell (Victoria) Heun of Cleveland, MN, Lori (Steve) Lochray of Ames, IA, Adam Heun (special friend Alicia Clancy) of Ogden, IA, Daniel Heun (special friend Hannah Jaques) of Sioux City, IA, and Anne Heun (special friend Kyle Hoskinson) of Des Moines, IA; great-grandchildren: Travis Burt of Cleveland, MN, and Kate Lochray of Ames, IA; sisters: Velma (Donald) Meyer of Lake View, IA and Evelyn Messenbrink of Sac City, IA; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Ione was preceded in death by her husband Leonard; her parents Otto and Lena; step-mother Elsie Peters; grandson Christopher Heun; brother-in-law Donald Messenbrink; and nephew Jeffery Messenbrink. Memorial contributions may be directed to the church.
