Havens, a resident of the Masonville community since 1865, died at his home Nov. 11, 1936, after a long and painful illness. During the past year or more Mr. Havens suffered intensely. Funeral services were held at the home near Masonville at 1:00 o'clock, and from the Methodist church at Masonville at 1:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon, with Rev. A. R. Coover, the pastor, officiating. Burial was made in the Masonville cemetery. Mr. Havens was born in Cook county, Illinois, March 25, 1855, and when he was ten years of age his father's family came west and located on some land in Buchanan county, near Masonville. He was united in marriage with Miss Mary Ann Butler on Feb. 22, 1876, and to this union were born five children. During all of their married life Mr. and Mrs. Havens resided on a farm near Masonvillle. He is survived by his widow and the five children--George D. Havens and Mrs. H. K. Eddey, of Rolla, Mo.; Fred J. Havens of Osterdock, Ia., William Havens of Jesup, and Miss Bess Havens at home. He also leaves seventeen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. In early life Mr. Havens was converted to the Christian faith and had been a member of the Methodist church for a great many years. He was also a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge of Masonville. The passing of Mr. Havens removes from the Masonville community one of the older men who played well his part in the development of the prairie country of Iowa. He was held in the highest esteem by his neighbors and friends, and will be greatly missed by the family circle, and by the hosts, of friends.
