Description	:	The following bio comes from the book, Seward County Nebraska 1982 (pg.281-2) Ira Hubbard Olmstead, second son of Orson Kellogg and Martha (Boyes) Olmstead was born February 9, 1880 in Orleans, Nebraska where he spent his youth. As a young man he pioneered in western Colorado where he established a ranch. For several years he captured and tamed wild horses and worked with oil drilling operations in Colorado and Utah. As a young man he pioneered in western Colorado where he established a ranch. For several years he captured and tamed wild horses and worked with oil drilling operations in Colorado and Utah. He returned to Nebraska in 1914 and worked on the Blue River Hydroelectric plant. In 1918 he married Josephine Louise Littlefield of Dorchester, Nebraska. Shortly after they were married, Ira and Josephine established the Red Bell Orchard a mile north of Seward. This was an important source of apples and cider for the surrounding area in the late 1920's and early 1930's. The orchard did not survive the drought of the 30's, so Ira became a millwright at the Seward City Mills as well as working with the engineering and construction of many small bridges and dams in eastern Nebraska. He also served as a civil engineer on projects within the Winnebago Reservation along the Missouri River. For two summers, he prospected with his sons in Colorado and New Mexico. In later years, Ira became the Seward County Surveyor. Ira and Josephine were blessed with four children: Kenneth (Mary), Helen Jean (William Beatty), Don (Patricia), and Ruth (Vernon Thompson).
