Ira King was born in Greene County, Pennsylvania, April 21, 1831 and died at his home in Bentonville, Arkansas on February 22, 1909, aged seventy-seven years, ten months and one day. Ira King was born in Greene County, Pennsylvania, April 21, 1831 and died at his home in Bentonville, Arkansas on February 22, 1909, aged seventy-seven years, ten months and one day. When but two years old he came with his parents from his native state to Moroco, Ohio. Since this removal he had lived in Salida, Colorado, in Allerton, Corydon and Sewell, Iowa and lastly in Bentonville. It was in 1864 he went from Iowa to Colorado where he resided till 1890 when he returned to Allerton, Iowa. Fourteen years later, 1904, he removed to this city where he married Miss Delilah Shriver who with their "adopted" daughter [Carrie #142351649], Mrs. G.J. Moore, survive to mourn their irreparable loss. Deceased has, from three, one surviving sister, Mrs. J.W. Rice, living in this city. He leaves three brothers – Israel King, Shawnee, Oklahoma, Lorenzo King of NW Nebraska, and Wesley King, Littleton, Colorado. This is a brief statement of dates and places of a good man. It tells not his heroic deeds of energy and unflagging industry; of his sacrifices and successes; of his patience, good cheer, good humor and good will; and of his kindliness, benevolence and devotion to duty. He was the same at home and abroad – a genial Christian humble like his Master, seeking to do good to his fellow man. He early declared his faith in Jesus as the redeemer of men from sin and lived a consistent member of the Church of Christ and in the blessed promises based on the grace and character of God, he died. The funeral services were held at his home in Deming's Addition. The sermon was preached by his minister of the Christian Church here. The remains were taken by the family to Allerton, Iowa for interment. [Benton County Democrat – Bentonville, Benton County, Arkansas – February 25, 1909] Ira and Delilah "adopted" their niece Carrie Mable King #142351649, daughter of Wesley King (brother of Ira) and his wife Mary Jane Shriver King (sister of Ira's wife Delilah)abt.1885. Carrie lived with Ira and Delilah in the 1885 CO. census. They returned to Iowa where Carrie was raised and educated. Carrie's father Wesley continued to live in CO with his son's. Mary Jane's fate is unknown.
