He came to Kansas with his parents in his early boyhood. The family settled on a farm in Neosho county. In 1899 he was united in marriage to Florence May Geary at Pittsburg, Kas., coming to Iola in 1900. To this union two daughters were born, Viola May and Jessie Kathryn. He was united with the Methodist church during the pastorate of the late Rev. John Price, and remained a faithful member until his death. The wife and mother departed this life October 8, 1929. His second marriage to Mrs. Lulu Ethel Davis took place on October 21, 1931. She was his constant and loving companion during his long illness. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Swain; two daughters, Mrs. Sniff of Caddoa, Colo., and Mrs. Clevenger of Iola; a stepson, Dr. Stanley Davis of Columbus, Kas.; six grandchildren, two brothers, two sisters, and a host of other relatives and friends who mourn his passing. He died at his home in Iola, August 14, 1936. Interment was in Highland Abbey. Active and honorary pallbearers were his former and present and present co-workers. Contributor: CJKirkpatrick
