Description	:	Ira Cole Drowns In River Near Bentonsport **Handwritten: May '41 Ira Cole, age 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Grover Cole, who live on the Gulick farm near Vernon, was drowned about noon Saturday in the Des Moines river while swimming with his younger brother and some other small boys opposite the Bentonsport depot. The body was recovered within half or three-quarters of an hour and artificial repiration was attempted by Dr. Webb after the body had been brought to the Bentonsport shore. The water in which he wa drowned is about two and a half feet deep. He is said to have been subject to epilepsy, and this may have been the cause of his death. Soon after the alarm was sounded at Bentonsport the sheriff's office was called, but Sheriff Vance was in Henry county. Scoutmaster Stong was then notified and he and Eagle Scout Lawrence Harness went to the scene of the accident and assisted in locating the body, and in attempting resuscitation. Coroner Harold Catcott was called from Birmingham. He declared the death accidental and no inquest necessary. Funeral services were held at 2:00 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Burnett Funeral home in Keosauqua, Rev. Orf officiating, with interment at Pittsburg cemetery. "Scrapbook of Unknown Origin
