| Description | : | Ira Hylton married Eunice Cox 27 December 1849. On 1 October 1861 he enlisted in the Confederate Army in Floyd County, Virginia. Initially, he was rejected by the army surgeon. He enlisted again March 24, 1862, with Abingdon Va Company D of the 54th Virginia Infantry.He was on sick furlough in Tennessee from August 3, 1863 to September 3, 1863. He participated in the Battle of Resaca, Georgia, on May 13, 1864 and was captured soon after the battle. He took the Oath of Allegiance in Louisville, Kentucky, June 24, 1864.
