Description	:	Wayne County Democrat April 1922 Obituary Ira Thomas was born near Ravana, Mercer County, Mo., March 18, 1883, and died at the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, following an operation for appendicitis, April 7, 1922, age 39 years and 19 days. He grew to manhood near the place of his birth and on February 19, 1905, was united in marriage to Martha Heriford of Princeton, Mo. Read More	Wayne County Democrat April 1922 Obituary Ira Thomas was born near Ravana, Mercer County, Mo., March 18, 1883, and died at the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, following an operation for appendicitis, April 7, 1922, age 39 years and 19 days. He grew to manhood near the place of his birth and on February 19, 1905, was united in marriage to Martha Heriford of Princeton, Mo. To this union were born one daughter, Dorothy and four sons, Walter, Clarence, Roy and one son that died in infancy. In the year 1911 with his family he moved to Wayne County, Iowa, settling on a farm north of Allerton and in the spring of 1920 bought and moved to the farm southeast of town, where he at the time of his death. He was the oldest in the family of nine children of Rev. John Presley and Mary Catherine Thomas of Spencer, Iowa. His father is a well and favorably known Baptist Minister, having held successful pastorates in the churches of Missouri and Iowa and was for several years pastor of the Allerton Church. He was converted early in life during special meetings held in the Antioch Baptist Church, south of Princeton, Mo., under the ministry of the Rev. D. F. Loutzenheiser and was baptized into the fellowship of that church soon after. Later he transferred his membership to the Baptist Church of Allerton and was at the time of his death Superintendent of the Sunday school. He took an active interest in all the activities of his church, lived a consistent Christian life, was an estimable neighbor, upright citizen and was loved by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife and four children, father and mother, grandmother, Mrs. Nancy Campbell of Spencer, one uncle, G. W. Thomas of Spickard, Mo., five brothers; and two sisters: Mrs. Ivy Easter of Princeton, Mo., Arthur of Allerton, Jess of Swaledale, Wm. Harrison of Des Moines, David Howard of Hedrick, Robert Presley of Spencer and Nan Catherine of Des Moines. Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist Church, Saturday at 2:00 P.M., the pastor, Rev. D. E. Killoren officiating and the remains were laid to rest in the Allerton Cemetery Sunday at 4:00 P.M. He hath ceased from his labors and his works do follow him.
