Description	:	IRA TUBBS Son of Leroy and Rhoda Tubbs, was born near Plymouth, Richland county, Ohio, July 6, 1845. When but a boy he came with his parents to Steuben county and here grew to manhood. He was married to Lucinda Harpster, Sept. 19, 1869. To this union eight children were born, two having preceded him to the better land. Read More	IRA TUBBS Son of Leroy and Rhoda Tubbs, was born near Plymouth, Richland county, Ohio, July 6, 1845. When but a boy he came with his parents to Steuben county and here grew to manhood. He was married to Lucinda Harpster, Sept. 19, 1869. To this union eight children were born, two having preceded him to the better land. Of this one who has gone it can truly be said that he was a kind, loving and indulgent husband and father. His home was a refuge for the homeless, and no sacrifice was too great for him to make that other might be conforted and made happy. To the two boys, John and Donald Lanham, who came to his home when small children, he was not only grandfather, but ever gave them a father's care; also, one nephew, Geo. Stofer, who was reared in the home, was tenderly cared for. He truly verified the statement, "In as much as ye have done it unto the least of these, my brethren, ye have done it unto Me." He became a member of the United Brethren church at Mount Zion in 1872. His children bear testimony to his Christian life, and well do they remember when he gathered them about the family alter for worship. Although not identified with the church near his home, he ever maintained the high standard of Christian living. He was not a stranger to God and loved to read his holy word. Only a few days before his death, when asked if he knew Jesus would come for him, his reply was "Yes, I am ready to go whenever He comes." Although his body was racked with complications of diseases and he suffered intensely, he bore it all so patiently and no one ever heard him murmur or complain. He was ever hopeful of recovery, but on Friday morning, April 14, when apparently resting, he quietly fell asleep and went to meet his Savior. After years of toil and struggle; Joy and pain, sunshine and shadow his life went out at his home near East Gilead, Mich., aged 65 years, 9 months and 8 days. He leaves to mourn their loss, a devoted wife, five daughters, Mrs. Emma Elliott, Mrs. Eva Morse, Mrs. Mary Collins, Mrs. Bessie Flint, Mrs. Myrtle Carr; one son, Henry, and aged mother, one brother, two sisters, Mrs. Henry Ritter and Mrs. John Stumpf, six grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. As he has lived nearly all his life in Steuben and LaGrange counties, Indiana; and Branch county, Mich., many can testify to his sterling character and clean life, void of all bad habits. His life was a good example and in the quiet going out we feel that he has entered into the joys prepared for the children of God.
