Description	:	IRENA DERBY died Thursday morning March 29, at the home of her niece, Mrs. Myron Kimball, with whom she has lived since the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Kimball about fifteen years ago. She was born in Rindge, N.H., in 1807 [sic], and was the eldest daughter in the family, having two older brothers, six sisters, and a younger brother. Read More	IRENA DERBY died Thursday morning March 29, at the home of her niece, Mrs. Myron Kimball, with whom she has lived since the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Kimball about fifteen years ago. She was born in Rindge, N.H., in 1807 [sic], and was the eldest daughter in the family, having two older brothers, six sisters, and a younger brother. She was the daughter of Olive and Elizabeth Derby, and moved with her parents to Groton when quite young. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. James Sherburne of Graniteville and a brother, Geo. O. Derby of Wellsboro, Penn. At an early age, she with her sister, went to work in the factory at Lowell, and became an attendant at the Worthen street Baptist church, and later, a member, always remaining true to her faith, and at her death was a member of the Baptist church at Littleton common. As the years passed away the sisters married and passed on, leaving little ones to whom she became a second mother. Many nieces and their children can testify to the kindness of Aunt Irena as she was always called by relatives and friends and nowhere will she be missed more than in the home where she died, by the two little children who loved her so well. She has been in feeble health for two or three years owing to her advanced age, 83 yrs., 1 mo., 1 dy., but was able to be about the house till within two days of her death, which was due to the grip, quickly followed by pneumonia, and was a great surprise to her many friends, who were not aware she was seriously ill. The funeral was held the following Saturday and was largely attended, Rev. F. R. Enslin officiating. A quartet, composed of Mr. Wilkins, Elmer Canney, Mrs. Elmer Fletcher, and Miss Clara Nye, furnished the music. The floral tributes were a wreath of roses, Geo. A. Kimball of Sommerville; sheaf of wheat and calla lilies, Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Kimball; violets, Mrs. Gertrude Whitney; cut flowers, Mrs. E.O. Collier, Groton. Interment was in Littleton. (The Littleton Guidon - March 1900) According to the Littleton Register of Deaths, Irena was born in 1817, not 1807 as the paper states, and died in 1900.
