IRENE WACHTLER, at the age of 89 years, of Milk River, beloved wife of the late Albert Wachtler. Irene was born in Odeboll, Iowa on October 20,1911 to William and Susie Thompson of Lucky Strike, Alberta. At the age of 3 years, Irene's mother diet and Irene was sent to live with relatives in the U.S. At the age of 14 years she returned to Lucky Strike where she finished her formal education. I Irene married Paul Vornbrock in 1931. They farmed at Allerston, where their six children were born. In 1945, Irene left farm life and moved to Calgary. That same year, Irene's youngest daughter, Lenore, was born to Irene and Albert Wachtler. Irene resided in Calgary, where she operated Mountview Daycare Centre for many years. Irene had a great love or children, and especially loved her grand and great grandchildren. In her retirement Irene enjoyed gardening, cooking, and preserving. She truly enjoyed watching sports on T.V. In her later years, due to ill heallh, Irene returned to Milk River and resided in the Boarder Counties Extended Care Unit until the time of her passing. Irene is survived by her daughters Mary Lou xxx of Wetaskwin, AB, Pauline xxx, of Oakville, Ont., Betty xxx of Calgary, AB, Carole xxx of Warner, AB, Marjorie xxx of Coaldale, AB and Lenore xxxx of Vancouver, B.C.; her son xxx Vornbrock of Milk River AB; 25 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her loving husband Albert Irene was predeceased by her first husband Paul Vornbrock, her sister Lenore Qually and her brother Carl Thompson. ================= Her obituary states that Irene was born 20 October 1911, in Iowa (where her parents married, and her eldest sister was born in Mar 1909) but this is "illogical". The child born next was her brother Carl who was born in Alberta, Canada, Aug 1910. The family is listed in the 1911 Canada Census (enumerated on 5 June) residing in Medicine Hat, Alberta. It does not make any sense that her family would then travel to Iowa for Irene to be born in Oct 1911, and then would quickly return back to Alberta where Irene's mother died in 1914.
