On September 10, 1944, she was united in marriage to Vernon H. Wellman in York, NE. Irene was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church where she also belonged to LWML. She enjoyed being a part of the grandparent reading program at York Elementary School, gardening, drawing, traveling, and wintering in Texas. She was born on April 25, 1926 to Otto E. and Elizabeth I. (Grosor) Schultze in Gresham, NE. On September 10, 1944, she was united in marriage to Vernon H. Wellman in York, NE. Irene was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church where she also belonged to LWML. She enjoyed being a part of the grandparent reading program at York Elementary School, gardening, drawing, traveling, and wintering in Texas. She is survived by her children: Linda (Thomas) Nunns of Lincoln, NE, Shirley (Jerry) Taylor of Hot Springs, AR, and Tim (Karen) Wellman of York; grandchildren: Shannon (Shaun) Mee, Zachary Taylor, Diana (James) Schilf, Misty (Jon) Brouillette, Ashley (Barrett) Waldrep, and Lexy (Eric) Schwab and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Esther (Hubert) Tracy, brother Raymond (Josee) Schultze, and sister Dorothy Anderson, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Norman Schultze, sister Alma Schuessler, grandson Brian Nunns, and great-granddaughter Cessna Brestel. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Friday, January 21, 2022 at St. John's Lutheran Church, south of Waco. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are suggested to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, York, NE and The Alzheimer's Association. Irene's service will be streamed live on Metz Mortuary's Facebook page.
