She was the youngest of five children born to George and Elizabeth Bruntz Margheim. The family moved to Kansas for a brief period when Irene was young before moving to Chase County, Neb., south of Venango. Read More	Irene Hahlweg, 89, of Venango, Neb., died Wednesday afternoon, April 15, 2015. Irene was born April 7, 1926, in Windsor. She was the youngest of five children born to George and Elizabeth Bruntz Margheim. The family moved to Kansas for a brief period when Irene was young before moving to Chase County, Neb., south of Venango. In 1940 Irene Elizabeth "Morgheim" is in Chase County, Nebraska, 13, with stepfather Jacob Berschauer and her mother Elizabeth. The Berschauer children - Johnnie, 18, Margaret 15, Harold 12, Walter L. 8, and Richard E. 6, and the Margheim children Henry 21, Victor E. 15, and Fredrick W. 10 make up the family. Irene attended rural school through the eighth grade and then stayed home to help with the operation of the farm. Irene was married to Roscoe Hahlweg Aug. 3, 1946, in Venango. Five children were born to this union. The family lived south of Venango. Roscoe died in 1972, and Irene continued to maintain the farm until 1992 when she moved to Sterling. She returned to Venango in 2007 and maintained her home in town until 2012 when she moved to Sedgwick County Nursing Home in Julesburg. She had been in failing health when she died. Irene was always a hardworking farm wife and mother. She always enjoyed tending her garden. In addition to raising her own children, she served as a baby sitter for several years, and the kids always enjoyed it when Irene took care of them. In earlier years, she was an avid bowler and carried a high average. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, George and Henry Margheim. She is survived by three daughters, Dorothy and husband Mark England of Broomfield, Linda Stasis of Wray, and Betty and husband Tim Rawlston of Sioux City, Iowa; two sons, Don and wife Janet and Richard, all of Venango; three grandchildren and two great-granddaughters; two brothers, Vic Margheim of California and Fritz and wife Dorothy Margheim of Estes Park; a half-brother, Richard and wife Karen Berschauer of Oklahoma; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held April 20 at Venango St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Kurt Hatteberg officiating. Burial was at the Holyoke Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
