Irene had also served as a president of the Norway Lutheran Ladies of Norway Lutheran Church, and was a superintendent of the Sunday school. After Edo's unexpected death in March of 1981, Irene continued to operate Vojta Furniture in Mobridge with her sons, Curt and Kevin, until her retirement in 1991. She continued to live in Mobridge until the time of her death. She died Wednesday, April 4, 2007, at Mobridge Regional Hospital at the age of 83, just two weeks from her 84th birthday. Irene was born April 18, 1923, to Theodore and Lydia (Dupper) Wessel on the family farm northeast of Glenham. She grew up on this farm and attended the rural Dupper School near her home. She attended high school in Glenham, Mound City and Mobridge, graduating from Mobridge High School in 1940. While in high school, Irene lived with Judge Harry Mundt and his family, doing light housekeeping and childcare to pay her board and room. She then taught in the rural Lund School for a year and the rural Knudson School for two years. On June 24, 1947, Irene and Edo Vojta were married at Norway Lutheran Church and they made their home on Edo's farm north of Glenham. In 1957 they moved to Mobridge and established a business partnership with Ray and Edna Lind in the Coast-to-Coast Store. Eight years later they sold their interest in the store and established Vojta Furniture. In her later years, Irene loved spending time with her grandchildren. Surviving are her two sons, Curtis (Margie) Vojta of Sheridan, Wyo., and their son Brayden, and Kevin (Dori) Vojta of Mobridge and their children Logan and Rachel. In addition to her husband, Irene was preceded in death by one brother, Fred, another brother in infancy, and a nephew, Danny Vammer. Funeral services for Irene were Monday, April 9, at Norway Lutheran Church in rural Glenham. The Rev. Dennis Fonkert officiated. Casketbearers were Bill Lind, Roy Wessel, Dallas Vammer, Mark Vojta, Paul Vammer and Jerry Lind. Honorary bearers were Pat Baumann, Peggy Vammer, Marsha Abrahamson, Linda Neff, Judy Coggeshall, Jeanette Weiland, Brayden Vojta, Rachel Vojta, Logan Vojta, Donna Kosel and all Irene's other nieces and nephews. Burial was in the Norway Lutheran Church Cemetery under the direction of Kesling and Larson's Funeral Home of Mobridge. Mobridge Tribune April 11, 2007
