Description	:	Irene (Wahl) Neuharth, 89, of Long Beach, Calif., died Friday, May 30, 2008, at Long Beach Memorial Hospital. Her service was June 4 in Long Beach. Interment will be in Eureka Cemetery at a later date. Irene Elnora Wahl was born on a farm near Alpena Oct. 28, 1918, to Amelia (Dietrich) and John Wahl. Her service was June 4 in Long Beach. Interment will be in Eureka Cemetery at a later date. Irene Elnora Wahl was born on a farm near Alpena Oct. 28, 1918, to Amelia (Dietrich) and John Wahl. She attended rural school through the eighth grade and Alpena High School. In 1936 she attended nurses training at Anchor Hospital in St. Paul, Minn. She married Walter Neuharth Aug. 18, 1940, and lived in Sioux Falls. They lived in Deadwood and owned and operated Neuharth's Men's Wear clothing store in Wessington Springs. She helped organize a 20-bed hospital in Wessington Springs. They moved to Long Beach in 1953 where she worked for McDonnel-Douglas Corp. for 20 years as an industrial nurse, retiring in 1981. Over the years they traveled all over the world. She spent her leisure time cooking, gardening, singing in the choir and doing charity work. She is survived by her husband; a son, Loren of Albuquerque; a grandson; a granddaughter; two stepgrandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two step-great-grandsons; and a sister, Luella Traxler of Auburn, Calif.. She was preceded in death by a brother, John, and two sisters, Olga Selland and Leona Bauer. Arrangements are with Lien-Straub Funeral Chapel of Eureka.
