Welcher , 86, of Mount Pleasant, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mount Pleasant. Born May 13, 1915, in Anawan, Ill., she was the daughter of Harvey and Mary Magdeline Hilbrant. She married Paul Welcher on July 6, 1933, in Kahoka, Mo. Mrs. Welcher moved to the Mount Pleasant area when she was 12 and attended the rural school in the area. She worked in the inspection department of the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 10 years and then was a ward attendant at the Mental Health Institute in Mount Pleasant for 20 years. She retired in 1980. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella and the Rosary Society. She loved spending time with her family and playing card games. Survivors include her husband; two sons, [private]Welcher , both of Mount Pleasant; one daughter, [private] of Mount Pleasant; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and two brothers. Visitation will begin at noon Thursday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A Christian vigil service will be at 6:30 p.m. The funeral Mass for Mrs. Welcher will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, with the Rev. Nick Adam officiating. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Park Place Activity Fund and St. Alphonsus Building Fund.
