Description	:	Irene Chenoweth, 94, of Platte, SD passed away Saturday April 5, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society in Corsica, SD. Funeral Services are 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Platte. A Committal Service will follow at the Platte City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church two hours prior to services on Tuesday. Irene Grace (Chmela) Chenoweth was born on November 25, 1919 to John, Sr. and Carrie (Michalek) Chmela in Richland Township, Brule County, SD. She attended Pazour Country School and Pukwana High School. Going on to work for cafés in Pukwana and Chamberlain, and then at a preschool and hotel in Huron. She relocated to California and on July 28, 1940 she was united in marriage to Richard Chenoweth in Reno, NV. From this union came five children: LeRoy, Wayne, Jim, Bill and Cheryl. After three years they returned to South Dakota to live on 160 acres in Pleasant Grove Township. She raised the kids alone on the land and worked hard to provide for her family through employment at Johnson's Bakery, the Platte Hospital Kitchen and as a skilled seamstress. She made the Prairie Villa Assisted Living in Armour her home until becoming a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Corsica in 2012. Irene will always be remembered as a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She also enjoyed cooking, mending, Scrabble and playing cards. Grateful for having shared in Irene's life: her five children: LeRoy Richard Chenoweth of Higginsville, MO, Wayne Chenoweth of Mitchell, SD, Jim Chenoweth of Kimball, SD, Bill (Kristi) Chenoweth of Springfield, SD and Cheryl (John) Blom of Corsica, SD; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren: Kim (Chris) Huhnerkoch of Lead, SD, Kurtis (Nicole) Chenoweth, Ashley, Andrew of Mitchell, SD, Kenny (Laurie) Chenoweth, Lukas of Mitchell, SD, Kristin (Brandon) Vilhauer, Tanner, Tucker, Kennedy of Mitchell, SD, Jason Chenoweth of Hurley, SD, Jonda (Roberto) Alegria, Natalia of McKinney, TX, Jeremy (Lorena) Blom, Jonathon, Miranda, Allison, Julia, Isabel of Huron, SD, Justin (Tracy) Blom, Dylan, Alex, Gracelyn of Brandon, SD, Jolene (Jeremy) Kayser, Emilee, Aselin, Pierce of Mitchell, SD, Kylie (Ray) Bloyd, Aubrey, Peyton, RJ, Joseph of Columbus, NE, Jamie Chenoweth of Pukwana, SD, Nathen Chenoweth of Oacoma, SD; and a brother, Ernest Chmela of Chamberlain, SD. Irene was preceded in death by: her parents, John and Carrie Chmela; four brothers: Johnny, Bill, Leon and Garnet Chmela; and three sisters: Elsie Beebe, Rose Bingle and Lorene Hicks.
