Description	:	Irene (Grosz) Unterseher died peacefully on Sept. 6, 2014, one day before her 97th birthday. She was the last surviving child of John and Rosina Grosz. Services will be held at 2 p.m. CDT Friday, Sept. 12, at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen, with the Rev. Walt Wolff officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Irene Grosz was born Sept. 7, 1917, to John and Rosina (Tschaekofske) Grosz of rural Stanton. She attended country school through the eighth grade. After that she helped her parents on the farm and also went to live with her older sisters when they needed extra help in their homes. On Sept. 19, 1937, she married Harold Unterseher of Krem. Irene stayed at home providing a loving home for her family. Irene and Harold lived in Hazen when they were first married. After a few years, they moved to Stanton and lived there for 30 years. In 1974, they moved back to Hazen. Harold passed away in 1995. She continued to live in Hazen until February 2004, when she moved to the Knife River Care Center, Beulah. Irene was the stalwart for the family. She was a very strong person and accepted what was dealt her and made the best of everything. She didn’t think too hard about the tasks at hand — she just did it. She was a wonderful cook and baker. She spent many hours in the kitchen every day. But most of all, her family loved her pickles and kuchen. We still try to make these today to taste “just like Grandmas”. Irene was a former member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Stanton, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years and involved in the women’s groups. Upon moving to Hazen, she was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. She was also a past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
