Irene was born in Martin, SD on December 11, 1920 to John and Angelique Howe. She graduated from St. Mary’s School for Girls in Springfield in 1939. Read More	Irene Iverson, 96, of Sioux Falls, died Sunday, October 15, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Irene was born in Martin, SD on December 11, 1920 to John and Angelique Howe. She graduated from St. Mary’s School for Girls in Springfield in 1939. She graduated from Southern State Teacher’s College with a four-year degree in elementary and secondary education. She taught in the elementary schools of South Dakota for 25 years. Irene was united in marriage to Laurel A. Iverson of Meckling, SD in 1942. The greatest joy in her life was being a homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her church was central in her life. She enjoyed quilt-making, reading and many other hobbies. Teaching was very close to her heart and she was sincerely interested in every student she had. She was very serious about seeing that her students attained the best basic instruction she could give them in reading, writing, math and character training. She spent much effort in motivation to bring out the best in her students. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers and 1 sister. Survivors include a son, Ross (Deborah) Iverson, of Santa Fe, NM; a daughter, Myrna (Gary) Stanley of Sioux Falls, SD; three grandchildren, Audra (Jered) Newell, Alicia (Brian) Iverson-Salazar, and John Stanley; 5 great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law; 11 nieces and nephews. Also sharing her grandmotherly presence are Wendy and Mark VanStormbroek (Sophie, Finn), Sioux Falls, SD, and Gabriel Kon Machot Lual (Rebecca, Serena) of South Sudan. Her life was enriched by her church, family and friends. She was unfailingly kind and loved many and was adored by all who knew her. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Calvary Episcopal Cathedral on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at 2:00 p.m., with a reception to follow. A private burial service was held on October 18, 2017 at the Bergen Evergreen Cemetery, rural Meckling, SD. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Calvary Episcopal Cathedral in Sioux Falls; St. Katharine’s Episcopal Church in Martin, SD; Rebuilding South Sudan through Education (RSSE); or a charity of choice. - Miller Funeral Home
