Description	:	Irene (Schneider) Hanson was born September 19, 1917 on the family farm in Roscoe, SD to Fredrick and Sadie (Penfield) Schneider. The family moved to the Columbia, SD area where she graduated from high school in 1931. She later met Marvin Hanson and they were married on November 9, 1935 in Leola, SD. They started their family farm near Houghton, SD then moved it to Bath, SD. Marvin and Irene were blessed to have four children: Merle, Arlis and Patti, as well as 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Read More	Irene (Schneider) Hanson was born September 19, 1917 on the family farm in Roscoe, SD to Fredrick and Sadie (Penfield) Schneider. The family moved to the Columbia, SD area where she graduated from high school in 1931. She later met Marvin Hanson and they were married on November 9, 1935 in Leola, SD. They started their family farm near Houghton, SD then moved it to Bath, SD. Marvin and Irene were blessed to have four children: Merle, Arlis and Patti, as well as 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She is remembered as always being a hard worker and enjoyed farming - raising cows, hogs, chickens, selling eggs, gardening and canning. She always made sure the guys had plenty to eat; either delivering meals straight to the field or having a meal ready for them when they got home from a hard day’s work. In later years she enjoyed playing cards, board games, putting puzzles together, bowling, listening to country music, bus trips to casinos, gardening, watching and feeding birds, collecting dolls, family gatherings, going to the lake, and taking drives to enjoy the view of the crops that were put in each year. The sight of her grandchildren never failed to bring a smile to her face and a sparkle to her eyes. She enjoyed every one of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her grandchildren’s memories consist of many which include: great words of advice, her love of farming and gardening, and pitching in to move grandma to her new homes. They also enjoyed listening to her stories of the good ol’ days and of all her garden prospers. Taking drives by the crops in the spring and the fall as well as taking drives to look at Christmas lights during the winter. Listening to the enjoyment in her voice when she would talk about her last trip to the casino and when the next big trip was going to be. She lived a good long life to know what she wanted and knew what worked. We can’t even imagine all the changes she saw in her amazing 97 years. Preceded by death were her father Fredrick Schneider, mother Sadie Penfield Schneider, husband Marvin Hanson, sisters Alice, Ruby, Hazel, and Delores, brother Lester, sons Merle and Arlis, daughter-in-law Carol (Cookie) and grandsons Scott and Loy.
