Description	:	Funeral services for Irene Schapmann, age 91 of Tilden, will be held Saturday October 2, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Tilden. Rev. Ross Burkholter will celebrate with burial in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Tilden. (Voigt) Schapmann, daughter of Henry and Julia (Graves) Voigt, was born on May 23, 1919 in Tilden, Nebraska. She graduated from Tilden High School in 1936. She married Berno Schapmann on June 15, 1938 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Tilden. To this union five children were born: Arlene, Shirley, David, Rita and Nicholas. They farmed many years southwest of Tilden until they together built their home in Tilden. Irene was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and its Altar Society. She was employed at the Tilden Citizen for over 30 years as a typesetter until she retired. Her life was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved helping her husband on the farm, traveling, dancing, gardening, collecting plates from her travels and woodworking. She was a Jack of All Trades and Master of None. She loved doing many home projects and was always willing to help others. Irene died on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at the Tilden Community Hospital at the age of 91. She had been residing at the hospital since January 2010 following an extended period of illness. She is survived by daughters, Shirley Mittan, Rita and husband Greg Eickhoff all of Tilden, NE; sons, David Schapmann of Salisaw, OK, Nick Schapmann of Norfolk, NE; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; siblings, Joan Anderson, Rita Cox, Dale and wife Peg Voigt all of Norfolk, NE; and sister-in-law, Marie Henn of Omaha, NE. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Berno; daughter, Arlene; grandson, William Arrison; and sisters, Isabel, Lorraine and Mary. Pallbearers will be nephews: Bill Seifert, Robert Petersen, Robert Anderson, Mark Voigt, Phil Cox, Stan Schapmann, Raymond Schapmann and Ron Henn.
