Description	:	Irene Bode, 84 of Lake Preston died May 3, 2009 at Brookview Manor in Brookings. Irene Lucille Gaspar was born at Orient, SD on November 1, 1924 to John and Veronica (Hardes) Gaspar. She graduated from Polo High School and recieved her RN Degree from St. Luke's School of Nursing in Aberdeen, SD. Irene Lucille Gaspar was born at Orient, SD on November 1, 1924 to John and Veronica (Hardes) Gaspar. She graduated from Polo High School and recieved her RN Degree from St. Luke's School of Nursing in Aberdeen, SD. She was a member of the Cadet Nurse's Corps until WWII ended and then worked for Dr. Collely's Obstetrics Clinic in Aberdeen. Irene married Ralph C. Bode on November 28, 1945 in Polo. They lived in Aberdeen before moving to Lake Preston, SD. in 1951, when Ralph purchased the Band Box Cleaners. Irene worked as a registered nurse at the Kingsbury County Memorial Hospital until it closed, then worked with Ralph at the cleaners until they retired in 1992. In addition to raising 6 children, Irene was very active in the community. She was a member of St. Thomas Alter Society, Mother's Club, Junior Civic Club, PTA, CCD teacher, East River Rural Health Board and volunteered with hospice and provided various assistanace to many people in the community. Irene is survived by her children; Barbara Brown, San Fransico, CA; Sandra (Jim) Riesselman, Woodville, WI; Steven (Barbara) Bode, Eden Prairie, MN; Susan (Bill) Schroeder, Leesburg, VA; Mary (Bruce) Tucker, Hartford, WI and Bob (Ceci) Bode, Lake Preston, SD; 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 2 sisters, Dorothy Bernard, Aberdeen, SD and Sister Mary Jane Gaspar, Sioux Falls, SD; a brother, Vince (Darlene) Gaspar, Orient, SD. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Veronica Gaspar; her husband, Ralph in 2001; brother, Clarence Gaspar in infancy; sister, Sister M. Janette Gaspar; son-in-law, Dennis Brown; brother-in-law, Arnold Bernard and sister-in-law, Lurie Gaspar. Funeral services for Mrs. Bode will be 10:30 am Friday, May 8, 2009 at St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in DeSmet, SD with burial in the Lake Preston Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-8 pm at the Lake Preston Lutheran Church, May 7, 2009 with a prayer services at 8:00 pm.
