She was born Sunday, January 18, 1925, the daughter of F. Dale and Rosa Chilcote Ruttan, in Monroe County, Iowa. Irene graduated from the Eddyville High School with the Class of 1944. She then attended William Penn College and received a teaching certificate and taught at rural schools for 4 years prior to her marriage. On August 9, 1948, Irene was united in marriage to Donald C. Maudlin in Sigourney, Iowa. Donald died November 24, 2002. Irene enjoyed traveling on bus tours, gardening, flowers, puzzles, and going to flea markets and auctions. Her family includes a daughter: Joyce (& Gary) McDaniel of Oskaloosa; a son: David (& Cheryle) Maudlin of Barnes City, Iowa; three grandsons: Douglas (& Lori) McDaniel, Brad (& Deb) McDaniel, and Jeremiah Maudlin; two great-grandchildren: Alec and Fiona McDaniel; three sisters: Ruth (& Glen) Stout, Opal Regenitter, and Jean (& Leonard) Belzer; and a brother: Willis Ruttan. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters: Frances Steen and Louise Van Zante; and a brother: Floyd Ruttan. Graveside funeral services and burial will held Monday, September 28, 2015, at 10:00 A.M. in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa, with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. A procession will form at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Monday morning at 9:40 A.M. for those wishing to go to the ceremony. Visitation will be held Sunday after 11:00 A.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel, and the family will be present at the funeral Chapel Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
