Description	:	Irene Goeser, 79 Sept. 22, 1915 - Oct. 5, 1994 Defiance - Irene Margaret Goeser, the daughter of Tony and Celia (Heese) Finken was born Sept. 22, 1915 at Earling. She was baptized, received her First Communion and was confirmed at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Earling. She attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and grew to adulthood in the home of her parents. May 22, 1934 she married Edwin Goeser at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Earling. Read More	Irene Goeser, 79 Sept. 22, 1915 - Oct. 5, 1994 Defiance - Irene Margaret Goeser, the daughter of Tony and Celia (Heese) Finken was born Sept. 22, 1915 at Earling. She was baptized, received her First Communion and was confirmed at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Earling. She attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and grew to adulthood in the home of her parents. May 22, 1934 she married Edwin Goeser at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Earling. Four children were born to this union. After their marriage, they resided in Defiance. During the two years that Edwin was in the military service, she served as the acting postmaster at the Post Office in Defiance, and from time to time was a substitute mail carrier. She died Oct. 5, 1994 at Myrtue Memorial Hospital at age 79 years and 13 days. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the Altar Society in Defiance as well as the Catholic Daughter of Americas, St. Katherine's Court #266 of Earling. She was also a member of the neighborhood card club. in addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Wayne; a granddaughter, Patricia Murphy; a sister in infancy, Theoletta, three brothers, Anton Jr. in infancy, Sylvester and Austin Finken, a sister in-law, Clara Finken, a brother-in-law, Elmer Schneider and a brother-in-law Lawrence and his wife Marie Goeser. She is survived by her children, Marilyn Murphy of Dunlap; Patrick (Diane) Goeser of Defiance and Dennis (Deeann) Goeser of Omaha; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren; her sisters and brothers, Marie Ebert of El Paso, TS; Edith Schneider of Harlan and Doris (Walt) Schneider of Harlan; Dennis (Betty) Finken and Ivo ("Mick") Finken, all of Earling and Vera (Delbert) Munchrath of Defiance; a sister-in-law, Rita (Vern) Pranke of Sioux City; nieces and nephews and other relatives. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Oct. 8, 1994 at St. Peter's Catholic church in Defiance with Rev. Thomas Crowley celebrant. Burial was in Sts. Peter and Paul cemetery in Defiance with Chad Goeser, Daryl Schneider, Kenneth Schneider, Jerry Schneider, Dean Finken and Allen Schneider casket bearers. Goeser was born on March 25, 1909, on a farm west of Harlan. He was the son of John and Celia Kenkel Goeser. Edwin had one brother, Lawrence. Ed went to school at Westphalia and Dowling in Des Moines. On May 22, 1934, Ed married Irene M. Finken at Earling. She was the daughter of Tony and Celia Heese Finken. Irene's four brothers are: Sylvester (Toody), Austin, Denny and Ivo, and her four sisters are: Marie Ebert, Vera Munchrath, Edith Schneider . and Doris Schneider. Irene went to St. Joseph's School at Earling. Ed was a postmaster at Defiance from 1934 to 1947 and rural mail carrier from 1947 until retirement in 1973. He died September 14, 1979. Ed and Irene have four children: Marilyn Murphy (John) of Dunlap; Wayne (deceased); Patrick married to Diane McCoy and they live in Defiance; and Denis is an architect for Leo A. Daley Co. of Omaha, Nebraska.
