Description	:	Irene Maxine Steenhoek Krueger was born July 29, 1927, in rural Monroe, Iowa the daughter of Dick and Dorotha DeBruyn Steenhoek. She was raised and educated in the Prairie City area where she attended Prairie City schools until the 10th grade. The family moved to Newton in 1943 where she went on to graduate from Newton High Schoolin 1943. The family moved to Newton in 1943 where she went on to graduate from Newton High Schoolin 1943. Following graduate she was employed at several area locations including Maytag, the Newbury Dime Store, Vernon's and Montgomery Ward. Irene married Alan Anspach on Dec. 24, 1945 at Newton Iowa. They had two children: Priscilla Kay Anspach, who born Jan. 22, 1949 and died two days later; Dick Dennis born Mar. 31, 1951. Their marriage ended in divorce. She married Dean Eugene Krueger on Nov. 6, 1953, at the Newton Methodist Church. Later Dean adopted Irene's son Dick Dennis. Following their marriage they moved to Baxter. In the late 1950s Irene was very instrumental in the founding and organizing of the Beacon Light School in Newton. It was in January of 1969 that Irene went to work for the State Treasurer's office in Des Moines. She remained there until retiring in 1990 as head cashier. Throughout her lifetime Irene was very active in volunteering her time and efforts with numerous organizations. She had currently been a member of the Bethany United Church of Christ, American Legion Auxiliary, Madon Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Newton Chapter 100 of the Order of the Eastern Star and was serving on the State Board for Retarded Children. Irene had also been responsible for organizing the Jasper County Association for Retarded Children. Irene passed away June 20, 2000 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Priscilla Kay Anspach; her son Dick D. Krueger and her parents. Survivors include her husband, Dean Krueger of Baster; a sister, Engeline Deaton of Newton; niece, Dorothy (Don) Faidley and their three children of Colfax; nephew Richard (Holly) Cannon and their two children of Fort Madison; newphew Milt Cannon and his two children of Newton.
