Irene Nichols was born November 20, 1914, near Nortonville, ND the daughter of Robert and Daisy Nichols. She attended the Greenland Township School and was baptized and confirmed in the First Lutheran Church in Litchville. She married Henry Opdahl on August 15, 1933, in Valley City. Irene Nichols was born November 20, 1914, near Nortonville, ND the daughter of Robert and Daisy Nichols. She attended the Greenland Township School and was baptized and confirmed in the First Lutheran Church in Litchville. She married Henry Opdahl on August 15, 1933, in Valley City. They farmed in the Svea Township and moved to Litchville in 1946 where they owned Opdahl Motors. Mr. Opdahl died November 20, 1977. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the ELCW of the church where she held several offices. She was a member of the VCST V 500 Club. She is survived by two daughters and a son, Arlene, (Mrs. Curtis Kraft), Fargo; Delores, (Mrs. Dennis Olafson), Cooperstown and Harlan Opdahl of Litchville; six sisters and five brothers; Luverne (Mrs. Glen Richardson), Ceretes, CA; Daisy Lee and Harvey Nichols of Washington; Ethel Higgenbotham, Carthage, MO; Dorothy Kluvers, Reno, NV; Gladys Riedman, Lakewood, CA; Hazel (Mrs. Eugene Riedman), Jamestown; Clifford and Leroy both of Kansas; Lawrence and Harold of California; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and a great-grandson. Pallbearers were Merwin McGregor, Alfred, Gerald and Gary Opdahl, Kenneth Willson and Norman Colebank. Honorary pallbearers were all of Irene’s grandchildren. The organist for the music and the funeral was Marlys Anderson. Soloists were Gaylen Opdahl singing “Amazing Grace” and Carl Opdahl singing “Beyond The Sunset”. The congregation sang two hymns “What a Friend We Have In Jesus” and “Abide With Me”. Olson #48363213 --------------------------------------------------------------------- Two people died and two others were injured when a car crossed the median of Interstate 94 and collided with two oncoming cars Monday afternoon September 26, 1988, according the state Highway Patrol. Killed were Dawn A. Raftvold, 23, of West Fargo, and Irene E. Opdahl, 73 of Litchville the patrol said. Mary Raftvold, 44, of Valley City, and Leon H Cockerill, III, 28, of Mapleton were injured. Mary Raftvold, Dawn Raftvold’s mother was listed in guarded condition at St. Luke’s Hospitals-Merit-Care while Cockerill was in critical condition at Dakota Hospital last week. The accident occurred about 2 p.m. Monday when the westbound car driven by Mrs. Opdahl crossed the highway median and hit the two eastbound cars driven by Mary Raftvold and Cockerill. Capt.
