Description	:	Leola - Funeral services for Irene R. Schumack, 80, of Leola, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Leola with Pastor Nathan Henschen leading the worship. Burial will be in Green Mound Cemetery in Leola. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Gramm-Hein Funeral Home in Ipswich and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Irene was born July 25, 1925, to Jacob and Maria (Heupel) Liedle in Hosmer, S.D. The family moved to Mobridge where she attended grade school through the third grade. The family then moved to a farm in Carl Township NE of Leola. She attended country school in Carl Township and graduated from the eighth grade. Irene spent time working for neighboring families for a number of years. At this point in her life she met Emanuel Schumack. On May 14, 1945, with her sister Hulda and her husband Herman Gohl she traveled to Aberdeen to marry Emanuel. Irene and Emanuel returned to Carl Township and set out to restore the Crow Homestead. There they farmed, raised their children, and watched their grandchildren grow up. She truly enjoyed farm life. She enjoyed getting out working the crops and to observe and work with the cattle. She had grown fond of riding a four-wheeler and her family felt blessed to have had her actively involved in their lives for all her years. Irene enjoyed quilting in her spare time and had given away many quilts to the parents of newborn children. She will be remembered by her family and the many hired hands from the farm for her ability to prepare wonderful German meals. Irene made the farmstead her home for the rest of her life before illness struck in the last several months. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Country Extension Club, and was a past member of the Carl Township School Board. Irene died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005, at Beverly Healthcare in Ipswich. Thankful for having shared in her life are her son, Ronnie (Peg) Schumack, Leola, and their children Shantel of Sioux Falls and Cole of Fargo; her daughter, Jenney (Glenn) Bender and their children Durand, Shaun and Tiffany all of Fargo; one brother, Orville Liedle of Aberdeen; two sisters, Alice (Julius) Bonnet of Leola and Arlean Kusler of Cokato, Minn.; one brother-in-law, Ed Opp of Moses Lake, Wash.; six sisters-in-law, Leona Liedle, Elizabeth Liedle and Olga Liedle, all of Aberdeen, Virginia Liedle of Rapid City, Betty (Fred) Tagge of Littleton, Colo.; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emanuel; daughter, Carol; brothers, Otto, Helmuth, Reuben, Ted, Aaron, Milbert, Elmer, and Allen; two sisters, Otelia “Tillie” and Hulda; in-laws, Herman Gohl, Virginia Liedle, Clara Liedle, Ray Kusler, Ervin and Phyllis Schumack and Alice Schumack. Casketbearers will be Shantel Schumack, Cole Schumack, Leah Rath, Shaun Bender, Lee Geffre and Terry Bonnet. Lee Kindelspire and Berwyn Bain will be ushers. Sharon Bain will serve as the organist for the service. Tiffany Bender and Kevin Heupel will each sing a solo. Published in the Aberdeen News on 11/11/2005.
