Ridenour, 96 years of age, of Merna, Nebraska, who fell and broke her hip at Merna a few days ago, passed away in the Lutheran Memorial Hospital in Grand Island, Hall County, Nebraska, on Friday, October 30, 1981. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Selma) Grantzinger of Merna, Nebraska and Ardith Gray of Bellinghars, Washington; by one step-daughter, Georgia Kleckner of Auburn, Washington, by one step-son, James L. (Lee) Ridenour of Merna, Nebraska, whose health is poorly and he is in a care home in Broken Bow, Nebraska at the present; and by six grandchildren, and by 13 great-grandchildren and other relatives and by many neighbors and hosts of other friends. Funeral services were held for Mrs. Ridenour on Monday, November 2, 1981 at 10:30 a.m. in Govier Brothers Mortuary Chapel in Broken Bow, Nebraska, with the rev. Keith W. Johnson of Merna, pastor of the United Methodist Church there, to which memorials were suggested in her loving memory, officiating. Interment was made following final graveside committal rites in the Kilfoil Township Cemetery at Merna, rural Custer County, Nebraska, with Govier Bros. Mortuary, Broken Bow, in charge of the arrangements. Iris Elvira Towle was born February 6, 1885 near Merna, Nebraska to Abner C. Towle and Elvira Sewell Towle. She attended country school until her mother passed away when Iris was of an early age. She remained at home caring for her father and younger brother. On May 25, 1908, she was united in marriage to George Edward Ridenour; to this union, two daughters, Selma and Ardis, were born. They made their home on a farm close to her birthplace until 1944 when they moved into Merna where she continued to live until the present time. They celebrated their golden Wedding Anniversary in May of 1958. She attended the former United Brethren Church as long as her health permitted. She also was a charter member of the So and Sew Club which she enjoyed very much. Iris was a member of the Order of Eastern Star lodge over 60 years. She was now a member of the United Methodist Church in Merna. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, 1 brother and an infant grandson.
