Description	:	Irma A. Swanke, 95, of Valley City, North Dakota died Monday, April 27, 2009 at Maryhill Manor in Enderlin, North Dakota. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City, ND with Rev. Marilee Bergeson officiating. Visitation will be from 4 -7 pm on Friday, May 1, 2009 at the Lerud-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home in Valley City and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Swanke, 95, of Valley City, North Dakota died Monday, April 27, 2009 at Maryhill Manor in Enderlin, North Dakota. Interment will be at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Valley City, ND. Irma was born August 19, 1913 in Oriska, North Dakota, the daughter of Charles and Emma (Priebe) Trader. She was raised and educated in Oriska and graduated from Oriska High School. She married Roy H. Swanke on March 16, 1934 in Casselton, ND in a double ring ceremony with Al and Agnes Richman. They farmed near Tower City for 43 years, raising 5 children and hosting their grandchildren with summers on the farm. They retired and moved to Valley City in 1977, and continued their lifelong love of gardening. She was an early member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Tower City and later Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City and their ladies' Circles. She was also in several Homemakers clubs and the Order of the Eastern Star. Irma had a special gift for creating beautiful handiwork from the most basic materials. Her hands were always busy making things for others. From quilting and knitting to canning and cooking, Irma always had a new project and a recipient in mind for her afghans, jams, jellies and smiles. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by two daughters- Marcella Richman of Valley City, ND Doris (Carl) Sauerland of Broomfield, Colorado 3 sons- William Swanke, MD of Marysville, Washington, James (Peggy) Swanke of Apple Valley, MN, Wayne (Stephanie) Swanke of Los Angeles, California, 9 grandchildren- Ann (Kevin) Cease, Amanda (partner Tom Lopez) Richman, David (Von Fumetti) Hornbacher, Deborah (Mike) Grieco, Bart (Inda) Swanke, Ian (Kristen) Swanke, Lance (Lori) Swanke, Sommer (John Ford) Swanke and Shane (Maria) Swanke. 9 great grandchildren- Brett and Allison Cease, Paige and Sean Hornbacher, Hunter, Gage and Caiden Swanke, Alivia Swanke and Joao Swanke. 2 sisters- Eleanor Martinson of Fargo, ND Dorothy Young of Valley City, ND 4 brothers- Arthur Trader of Valley City, ND Albert Trader of Valley City, ND LeRoy Trader of Valley City, ND Fred Trader of Omaha, Nebraska numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents- Charles and Emma (Priebe) Trader, a sister- Mae Triebold, 3 brothers- Carl Trader, Earl Trader and Don Trader and son-in-law- Wayne Richman.
