Read More	Irma Lena Soodsma Scholten March 5, 1924 ~ September 18, 2003 Irma Lena Scholten, 79, Hull, died Thursday, Sept.18, at her residence. Services were Tuesday, Sept. 23, at First Christian Reformed Church in Hull, with Rev. Carl Klompien officiating. Burial was at Hope Cemetery in Hull under the direction of Oolman Funeral Home in Hull. Irma Scholten, daughter of Peter and Bertha (Dekker) Soodsma, was born March 5, 1924, on a farm eight miles north of Hull. She was raised on that farm and attended Garfield Township No.5 country school in Lyon County and graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull. She married Merle Klay on June 13, 1941, at her parents' home. Mr. Klay died March 31, 1944, at Camp Polk, LA., in an accident during World War II. She married Edward Scholten on August 1, 1947 at First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. They made their home in Hull, where she was a homemaker and was employed at Heynen Drapery for 12 years. She also reported the Hull news over KVDB Radio Station in Sioux Center, for 10 years. She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Hull, where she was a leader of the Senior Ladies Bible Study. She also belonged to the auxiliaries of the Gideons, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion, where she was an honorary Gold Star member. She enjoyed entertaining, sending cards, working crossword puzzles, taking Bible Study courses, and eating out on Saturday evenings. She distributed over a thousand Gideon New Testament Bibles in malls, at fairs, etc. She loved her family and felt their love for her. She also loved the Lord and made profession of her faith at age 17. Survivors include her husband, Ed Scholten of Hull; five daughters, Natalie, Betty, Ladonna, Lorna, and Debra; a son, Edward; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and a sister-in-law, Ann Soodsma of Hull. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Merle Klay; two grandchldren, Barb Brummel, and infant Edward John Scholten; three brothers, Bartle Soodsma, John Soodsma, and Henry Soodsma; and two sisters, Clara Feenstra and Mable Koele.
