Her funeral service will be held on Friday, December 14, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Gering with Pastor Linda Battello officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel. Irma was born on November 25, 1911 to Edith and John Galford on a farm near Minatare. She graduated 8th grade from Fairview country school. Her family moved to Gering when she entered the 9th grade at Gering High School. There she met her future husband John Reavis and they both graduated in 1931. They were married soon after graduation and went to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to work falling trees on Elks Island. Irma traveled with her husband, Major John Reavis, retired, while he was in the Army. Irma and her husband were very active in the Gering Methodist Church. Irma was active in the Women's Society and for years was the chairman of the funeral dinners. She was also chairman of the Health & Welfare, which involved caring for the needs of ill patients and their families as well as the needy. Irma was a member of the VFW auxiliary, and received their 1000 hour service pin. She was a 61 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary, a Rebecca's Past Nobel Grand and Chairman of their courtesy dinners. She was named Rebecca of the Year in 1973. Irma received a 1000 pin for her Pink Lady Volunteer work in the Hospital Auxiliary. She was Chairman of the Mother's March of Dimes for years. During the Polio epidemic in the 1950's, Irma took Polio training and was Chairman of the Volunteers and gave Sister Kenny packs to the patients. Irma taught Sunday school for years and did Boy Scout work on various levels. She and her husband were founders of the Gering PTA in the Gering grade and high schools and were awarded a Nebraska Life Membership pin. She and her husband were also honored as the Scottsbluff County Centennial Couple. Irma was named Scottsbluff County Mother of the Year in 1979. Irma was great support to her husband, John, who served on the Gering City Council for 33 years and the Northfield Villa Board for 22 years. The many hours of compassionate, loving, unselfish service, Irma gave to her church, the hospital and her community was the natural outgrowth of a faith that sustained her and motivated her to do good wherever she was. She was dearly loved by all who knew her. Irma is survived by her two sons, Bruce and wife Peggy of Gardenrville, Nevada and Lee of Gering; 4 grandchildren, Sean Reavis and wife Laura of Omaha, Erin Reed and husband Andy of Rancho Murieta, CA, Lisa Reavis of Gibralter, EU and Kimberly Reavis of Portland, OR; 5 great grandchildren, Mathew, Mitchell and Maxwell Reavis and Carlye and Olivia Reed. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Stella Meston, brothers, Paul and Keith Galford, son, Mick Reavis, daughter-in-law Marilyn Parrish Reavis and her beloved husband, for 67 years, John Reavis. Memorial contributions may be made in her name at the First United Methodist Church of Gering or Prairie Haven Hospice.
