Jacobs, 61, 4140 Emland Drive, died Thursday, May 9, at his home. Mr. Jacobs was manager of Kansas Claims Service in Topeka from 1958 until 1969 when he became manager and owner of the service. He had been president of the firm since. He served in the Fifth Infantry Division in Europe during World War II under Gen. George Patton. He commanded the first force and was the first American to cross the Rhine River during World War II. He received the Sliver Cross and Bronze Star awards for meritorious action while facing enemy action. He served in the Air Force during the Korean conflict in the Staff Judge Advocates office at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio, and at Topeka Supply Depot. He retired from the Air Force with the rank of reserve captain. He was born Dec. 26, 1923, at Schoenchen, the youngest of 13 children born to Casper and Magdelena Urban Jacobs. He was graduated from St. Joseph's Military Academy at Hays, now Thomas More Prep, in 1942 and entered the Army at the age of 18 with rank of second lieutenant. He was discharged from the Army in 1945, graduated from Kansas State College of Agriculture at Manhattan in 1948 and Washburn University School of Law in Topeka in 1951. Mr. Jacobs was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Topeka bar Association, Kansas State University Alumni, Washburn Law School Alumni and Thomas More Prep Alumni associations, Kansas Claims Association, Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity and Topeka Claims Association where he was claims adjuster of the year in 1982. He was married to Beverly Luke in 1945. They were divorced. He was married to Jean Jackson April 23, 1955, at Valley Falls. She services. A stepdaughter, Patricia Jean best, died Jan. 25, 1981. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Judy Berger, Columbus, Ohio; a son, M/Sgt. Jeffrey L. Jacobs, USAF, Worms, West Germany; four sisters, Mrs. Armilla Sanders, Menasha, Wis., Mrs. Clara Storm, Ellis, and Mrs. Rosa Ruder and Mrs. Lydia Seitz both of Hays; three brothers, Leo Jacobs, Ashland, Albert Jacobs, Mountain View, Ark., and Victor Jacobs, Cortez, Colo.; and three granddaughters. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a. m. Monday at most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Grahem Herbers Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3084 of Valley Falls will conduct graveside services at Valley Falls Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 2 p. m. Sunday at Parker Price Mortuary.
