Description	:	Irvin Charles Weber was born October 13, 1908 in Minot, North Dakota. He was the fifth of six children born to Mary Helga (Nelson) and Charles Wilhelm Otto Weber. His mother, Mary died in March of 1911. The two youngest children, Irvin and younger Joseph went to live with Mary’s sister Annie and her husband Perry Purdy. He was the fifth of six children born to Mary Helga (Nelson) and Charles Wilhelm Otto Weber. His mother, Mary died in March of 1911. The two youngest children, Irvin and younger Joseph went to live with Mary’s sister Annie and her husband Perry Purdy. In 1915, their father allowed Mary and Perry to adopt Irvin and Joseph as they had no children of their own and were providing a stable and nurturing home for them. Their farm was in Elmdale Township, Ward County, North Dakota. The family held membership in the Swedish Baptist congregation of Niobe. His adoptive father died in 1921, leaving Annie with the two boys. She felt education was very important and moved into Kenmare so the boys could attend high school. Irvin graduated from Kenmare High School with the Class of 1925. Irvin worked as a salesman and became the manager of the J.C. Penney Company in Kenmare, a position he held many years until his retirement. Irvin was united in marriage to Lillian Christine Oberg at Norma, ND on July 5, 1928. They were blessed with two sons, Charles and John. Faith in God was the foundation of his life and he held firmly to the Christian teachings, living it out each day. His family was active in the First Baptist Church in Kenmare, originally known as the Scandinavian Baptist Church. It was a great sorrow to him when conflict arose in this congregation and the faithful began to heatedly argue among themselves. A large number of members left to form their own independent congregation. Irvin remain steadfast in his Christian faith and with declining membership the First Baptist Church ultimately disbanded. So many of the things that he held most dear were slipping away. His beloved Lillian went to her eternal reward on August 1, 1995. Irvin sold his beautiful home that he share with his family and moved to the apartments connected to the Baptist Home in Kenmare. Here he still maintained his independence able to get in his car and drive to various activities in the community. Always a smile and a cheerful ambassador of the community. God called Irvin home on Thursday, June 7, 2001 in Tucson, Arizona at the age of 92. His funeral was held at the Grace Christian Fellowship (Former 1st Baptist Church building) on June 14, 2001. Interment was in the Lakeview Cemetery of Kenmare beside his beloved Lillian. Thompson Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND. Submitted by J.B. Mogren F.A.G. 46783109 Irvin's father was Charles Weber and his mother was Mary Nelson Weber. His mother Mary died from smoke imhalation after the homestead burned whem Irvin was two years old. Irvin and his brother Joe were then adopted by his mother's sister, Anna and her husband Perry Purdy of Kenmare. Irvin married Lillian Oberg of Norma on July 5, 1928 at Norma. They resided in Kenmare where he worked for the newly open J.C Penney store for the next 38 years, 27 years as manager. He retired in 1964. Irvin was very active in the First Baptist Church of Kenmare as Sunday School superintendent, Sunday School teacher, choir member, Deacon, church treasurer. He was president of the church board and held state offices for the American Baptist Church. He was instrumental in the establishment of Camp Bentley. He was active in the community working with the city commission, was on the city council, served on the Scout Troop Committee and headed two war nond drives. He was President of the Lions Club, Lake County Historical Society and First Gideon Fellowship. He served on the Kenmare Hospital Board for 16 years and on the Baptist Home Board since its inception until 1975. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. Contributor: Meg Ryberg (50126074)
